The Power Of Pitaya

We've been eating quite a bit of Pitaya in our house as of late.  I discovered the super fruit while working on a story for North County Kids Magazine and loved that, thanks to Pitaya Plus, it comes in smoothie packs and frozen fruit cubes.  Pop a few in the blender and you're done!

You’ve likely seen this hot pink fruit at your favorite juice or smoothie shop, but didn't know what it was. Indigenous to Central America, Pitaya is known for its rich color, sweet taste and innumerable health benefits. It’s packed with powerful vitamins and antioxidents and helps to neutralize free radicals, aid in digestion and boost energy and immunity.

The packs and frozen fruit cubes are sold in over 800 juice bars, smoothie shops and restaurants as well as Whole Foods, Sprouts Farmers Market, Safeway and Jimbo’s.  Grab a bag and try one of these amazing recipes!!



1 Pitaya Plus Smoothie Pack
½ cup of frozen mango
6oz apple Juice
1 banana

Combine all ingredients in a blender for 40-50 seconds or until smooth and creamy. Pour in a glass and enjoy!

Serves 1. Total Time: 5 min


2 Pitaya Plus Smoothie Packs
½ cup frozen pineapple
½ cup frozen mango
3 oz apple juice

Throw all ingredients in a blender for 30-40 seconds for a nice thick consistency. Top with fresh raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.

Serves 1. Total Time: 5 min


 3 oz silver tequila

1/3 of Pitaya smoothie packs or 2 oz of Pitaya cubes

Splash of orange juice

Lime wedge & crushed ice

In a shaker, combine tequila, pitaya, orange juice and crushed ice.  Shake for 10-15 seconds, pour into a margarita glass, garnish with lime wedge and enjoy!
