Summer Movies in Malibu
In this part of the country, it’s not always easy to distinguish when one season begins and the other ends. But leave it to events like the annual Malibu Country Mart’s Summer Movie Series to really make summer feel like summer.
Last Friday my 5-year old and I grabbed our beach blanket and headed out along the PHC destined for an evening with “Finding Nemo.” The great lawn next to the playground was pleasantly un-crowded so we got a great unobstructed spot right in front of the giant outdoor screen. Some families brought picnic baskets with full dinners, other wine and cheese and some showed up early to enjoy the local restaurants. We sampled Mr. Chow’s Special Movie Menu, which included spareribs, scallion pancakes, fried rice and chicken satay. While I normally wouldn’t have taken my child into the famed, classy Mr Chow, it was surprisingly child friendly and a nice departure from our usual kid fare. As an added bonus, despite his picky palate, the little man gave the scallion pancakes high marks. The special movie menu price is also pretty appealing at a range of $6-$20.
