“I’ve got so many photos and videos of my kids on my phone and I don’t know what to do with them”
Which one of us doesn't have this issue? Pinpointing a problem with no perfect solution, Chris Severn of GrandVideoSF decided to do something about it. GrandVideo compiles and transforms all of your baby and toddler footage into one affordable, shareable, stylish video. They sift through your media, find the best stuff, put original music to it, and produce a perfectly memorable finished product like Beckett or Camille’s. Chris spoke with us about his cutting edge company's objectives, challenges and goals.
Q: What sparked your idea to create personalized videos?
A: About a year ago, I flew out on a whim to interview my grandparents in Austin, Texas. My goal was to record their stories for the rest of my family to see -- from their childhoods, to how they met, to life on the ranch (and my Dad's shenanigans there), all the way to present day. When I premiered it to my family, there was a lot of laughter and tears. It took that one video for me to fall in love with the idea of high quality family storytelling through film, and providing that service for others.
Q: My videos are a mess. Do you organize them for me?
A: Nowadays, we have a lot of media. I have 4,000 photos and videos on my phone alone. When I start a project, I take all the photos and videos given to me, arrange them chronologically, and I place the best snippets into a Grand Video. No one has time to look at 1,000 video clips, but a few minutes of the best stuff makes for captivating, memorable entertainment. That's what I do for you.
Q: How can the videos be viewed?
A: I provide all clients with a private download link to their finished product on Vimeo. They can either share the video directly from Vimeo, or they can download it and share however they would like. I provide DVDs upon request.
Q: What has been your greatest challenge in launching the business so far?
A: So far, finding the perfect music to accompany each video is the most challenging. They all demand a subtle mix of nostalgia, home, and energy to drive the clips, and every video is unique. I have a background in music, so I wrack my brain until I find the right song to match the style.
Q: What is your ultimate goal for the company?
A: I believe that every family can benefit from high quality family videos. I'm starting primarily with baby videos, but eventually, those babies turn two, three, four...I want to help families capture their milestones, not just with raw footage and photos, but with high quality art. I envision a family, twenty years from now, that can pull up their GrandVideos after a college graduation and see their best memories played out with cinema quality. I would love that. At the end of the day, my memories of family and friends are all that matter.
