Most of us know the medicinal power of a day at the spa. The invigorating pick me up from a facial, the restorative feeling of a new hair cut and the ultimate refreshment of a good mani-pedi. Now imagine those who need that feeling the most. Adults and children who are consumed by doctors appointments, can't easily get out of the house and are exhausted from seemingly unending medical treatments.
That's where Beauty Bus Foundation comes in. Co-Founder Wendy Marantz Levine started the national nonprofit in loving memory of her sister Melissa who lost her battle with a degenerative neuromuscular disease at the age of 28. "Her friends were reluctant to come over and when they did they were afraid to touch her." Wendy says. "Most touch came from doctors administering tests or nurses giving shots."
Beauty Bus offers makeovers and pampering sessions to chronically and terminally ill patients and their care givers through in-home visits, pop-up salons and "bags of beauty" filled with complimentary products.
