Back To School: Looking At Lunch Boxes
Hard to believe it's almost time to go back to school. My latest article for San Diego North County Kids Magazine already has me heading back into lunch mode - that daily routine of shopping, preparing & packing. But now, in terms of waste and safety, I'm thinking about it a bit differently. Through my research, I discovered that just one average-size middle school creates over 40,000 pounds of lunch waste every year. Think straws, baggies, napkins etc. And plastic - even BPA free - has been found to leach chemicals that act like the hormone estrogen. So what do you do? Well, one could make themselves crazy or you could just start to look at alternatives like glass, stainless steel, bamboo, and waste free packaging.
For the magazines September issue, we're testing some of the healthiest, most reusable, eco friendly lunch boxes and containers on the market. Stay tuned for our top picks!! Have a pick of your own? Share below!
