Laura Burak is a registered dietitian and a bona fide foodie. She became passionate about delicious, fresh food at an early age and began cooking healthier meals for her family as a child. She graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition from Penn State, and completed her dietetic internship and nutrition master's degree program at New York University.
For the past 13 years, she has worked with patients of all ages, from all cultures and backgrounds; from an 8-year-old picky eater to a poorly controlled diabetic to a new mom struggling to lose the baby weight. Although the majority of her time has been spent working in hospital and private practice settings, she has been an adjunct professor at NYU, written for several food and nutrition-related publications, and most significantly, is mom to a 3-year-old girl and baby boy.
For the past five years she worked for the private practices of Joy Bauer Nutrition and Brown and Medina Nutrition as a nutrition counselor, and as a clinical dietitian at the Hospital for Special Surgery. Prior to that, she worked in the intensive care units as a critical care dietitian at Beth Israel Hospital in downtown Manhattan.
Laura finds no greater pleasure than helping a client struggling with weight management, chronic disease, or ailment. She relates to her clients and their struggles, and works with them in the most realistic way to improve their lives. She strives to create a positive, comfortable environment for people to discuss what can sometimes be very serious and sensitive topics.
Many of her clients have been through the gamut of diets, gimmicks and impractical meal plans but learn to appreciate the power their food has on their health without sacrificing pleasure from eating and enjoying life.
Laura is thrilled to have recently opened her own nutrition practice, Laura Burak Nutrition in Roslyn, NY and is now able to bring her lifelong passion for health, food and nutrition from NYC out to Long Island and provide the same exceptional quality of nutrition services.
